PUBLISH WITH MICROSCOPIA · COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH

We join your research team.

Your clinical expertise and microscopIA’s scientific contributions form a shared research project. Our participating researchers take substantive roles in producing, interpreting and reporting credible evidence. Manuscript preparation is one part of that collaboration.

Your clinical team

You lead the clinical question, provide complete organized and authorized source material, explain care decisions and outcomes, and participate in interpretation, critical review and final approval. The institution retains custody of its records.

microscopIA researchers

The assigned researchers and supervisor contribute to the learning question, critical appraisal of the literature, interpretation of the case and its limitations, and development and critical review of the report using appropriate reporting guidance. The clinical team verifies medical accuracy.

One accountable author team

Together we agree the protocol or case-report plan, contributions, interpretation, journal and final submission. Qualifying authors approve the manuscript and remain accountable for their work. Revisions and responses to reviewers are handled collaboratively within the agreed scope.

Contributions are agreed and recorded, including CRediT roles where applicable. Every proposed author must meet the applicable contribution, drafting or critical-review, final-approval and accountability criteria. Affiliation with microscopIA, supervision, payment or data provision alone does not automatically confer authorship or a byline position.

Publication support, with a clear route

The ability to pay should not be what determines whether valuable scientific work can reach publication. We assess support within the programme’s conditions.

STUDENTS & YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

Take your review toward publication.

Start your own systematic review or meta-analysis as a member. If you need help, request microscopIA assessment for manuscript preparation, open-access publication costs, or both.

01

Scientific quality

Rigorous execution and verifiable methods; completed work is assessed.

02

Transparent authorship

Authors, contributions, member percentage, microscopIA and external affiliations.

03

Agreed collaboration

microscopIA corresponding author and written support scope.

Support requirements and conditions

For this member-initiated review route, at least 50% of all genuine authors must be microscopIA Network members with active paid membership. Exactly 50% qualifies for assessment (5 of 10); 3 of 5 is 60%. Memberships are verified during assessment and before funding authorization.

Support depends on high-quality execution and scientific assessment of your question, methods and work completed. Manuscript support and publication-cost support are separate decisions, with scope and covered costs confirmed in writing before expenses are incurred.

Report microscopIA Network members with active paid membership as a percentage of all genuine authors: active members ÷ total authors × 100. The 50% requirement uses the exact counts, not a rounded percentage.

List every author, scientific contributions and all actual affiliations: microscopIA department or group where applicable, plus external institutions, departments, cities and countries. Membership and institutional affiliation are verified separately.

For an approved collaboration, a qualifying microscopIA researcher retains the corresponding-author role, with real scientific contributions, accountability, all-author agreement and compliance with journal rules.

microscopIA assesses applicable open-access agreements through the corresponding author’s genuine, verifiable affiliations. The publisher and participating institution must confirm eligibility and coverage; no agreement or fee waiver is guaranteed.

Prepare your review question and type, protocol or registration if available, methods, evidence of progress, author list and contributions, total authors and active-member count. Indicate the support needed and any proposed journal or fee estimate; these may be unknown.

Authorship follows actual scientific contributions. Do not add authors to meet the threshold. A request does not guarantee support, journal acceptance or publication.

Approved work within microscopIA

For approved projects developed within microscopIA, the organization may cover the agreed publication costs under the applicable programme conditions. Existing written commitments to cover approved charges remain in force.

Clinicians & Investigators · collaborative reviews

As an experienced Clinicians & Investigators member, propose a systematic review or meta-analysis with the microscopIA network and request open-access publication-cost support when MORE THAN 30% of the qualifying authors have a verified active microscopIA affiliation.

The threshold allows a support request; it does not automatically grant funding. Scientific review and written approval must confirm the journal, covered amount, exclusions and payment procedure before costs are incurred. Membership alone does not establish affiliation or authorship. Affiliations must be genuine and authorship follows actual contributions. Journal acceptance is independent.

Publication-cost support is distinct from membership subscriptions, project fees and accelerated preparation. Clinical-call fees remain applicable unless a written agreement expressly changes them.

YOUR QUESTION FIRST. A TRANSPARENT COLLABORATION NEXT.

One scientific standard. Two ways to participate.

Qualified clinicians and investigators may propose a case report or original study with or without membership. Submit immediately for scientific evaluation at no charge; these time-limited calls do not require waiting for a completed membership proposal window. Membership offers a lower project fee; it does not purchase selection or authorship.

Scope, existing agreements and publication costs

New case-report and original-research proposals use member project rates or standard nonmember rates (3×). Membership is a separate recurring subscription, not free project execution. No additional 30% discount stacks with these call rates. Existing accepted benefits and signed agreements are preserved; no retrospective charges. Scientific approval, organized authorized inputs and written scope are required. Students & Young Professionals cannot lead these calls. The AI image collaboration retains its separate member-only eligibility and commercial terms.

The written scope confirms the clinical lead, regional route, tax treatment, analysis complexity, deliverables, capacity, journal/APC budget covered by microscopIA, withdrawal/refunds and membership verification. Patient care, laboratory work, data organization and unlimited third-party costs are not included. Mixed-country teams require a written regional determination. Acceleration requires a separate feasibility assessment and written quote; the general publication-support simulator is a separate service and its discounts or payment triggers do not apply to these calls.

A PUBLIC EXAMPLE · COLOMBIA

A clinical challenge turned into a scientific record.

Staged orthoplastic reconstruction of an 8-cm open Achilles tendon defect after crush trauma in a 7-year-old child: a case report

The report describes staged reconstruction to restore tendon continuity and soft-tissue coverage after severe pediatric trauma. It illustrates a focused clinical lesson supported by a documented treatment pathway.

YOU BRING

The clinical insight.

A documented case you treated, permission to publish, clinical interpretation and guidance for two student or physician participants.

OUR SCIENTIFIC CONTRIBUTION

Research alongside your clinical team.

A supervisor and two collaborators contribute critical evidence review, interpretation of the case and its limitations, manuscript development and responses to reviewers. The complete author team reviews and approves the scientific work.

REQUIRED BEFORE SCIENTIFIC ACCEPTANCE

Your clinical timeline must already be complete and organized.

The treating clinician is responsible for a complete, fully organized medical-record timeline and clinical summary. microscopIA does not accept raw charts for the purpose of organizing or extracting the case data.

  • An ordered chronology of presentation, relevant history, diagnostic findings, treatment decisions, interventions, outcomes and follow-up.
  • A structured clinical summary with documented sources, missing information identified and relevant supporting material inventoried.
  • Publication consent and institutional authorization as applicable; no raw record or patient-identifying material in the initial application.

microscopIA checks scientific suitability and data quality before acceptance. Incomplete or unsuitable material is returned or declined; submitting it does not create a duty to organize it. Preparation targets start only with approved scope and complete authorized inputs.

01

Your expertise can become a lesson for other clinicians.

Led by Dr. Agamenón Quintero Villarreal, senior associate researcher at microscopIA, this initiative responds to his concern that valuable Colombian clinical experience too often remains unpublished. It supports clinicians while training new researchers.

01

Qualified professional lead

The lead must be a qualified clinician or investigator. Active professional membership is required only to receive the member project rate; a declaration alone is not verification.

02

Treating clinician, anywhere in the world

You personally participated in the patient’s care and can explain the clinical decisions, evidence and follow-up.

03

Professional credentials

For every route, provide professional registration and institutional affiliation. Both member and nonmember routes have project fees. Existing accepted benefits and signed agreements remain protected.

04

Patient and institutional permission

Obtain written publication consent and authorization from the department or research office with authority to approve this collaboration.

Professional credentials are reviewed individually ↗

02

What makes a case worth publishing?

A useful clinical lesson matters more than rarity alone. A strong proposal explains what readers will learn, why it adds to existing literature and whether the evidence can support the message.

A meaningful insight

An unusual presentation, diagnostic challenge, unexpected adverse event or carefully documented management strategy.

A credible clinical story

Clear diagnostic reasoning, a complete chronology, relevant images or tests and enough follow-up to discuss outcomes and limitations.

A responsible interpretation

Explain alternatives and uncertainty. A single case can generate a hypothesis but cannot establish effectiveness or causation.

Cases without permission, adequate documentation or a clear learning point may not be accepted. Do not perform new procedures or alter care to produce a report.

From a clinical question to journal submission.

  1. 01

    Propose

Send a brief non-identifiable summary and explain the learning point. No records or attachments.

  2. 02

    Review and agree

microscopIA verifies professional credentials, membership if requesting member pricing, scientific fit, the funding route and permissions. Acceptance and the scope are confirmed in writing before execution.

  3. 03

    Build the manuscript

Transfer approved material securely. Guide two assigned participants with the microscopIA supervisor.

  4. 04

    Approve and submit

The patient reviews permitted material, authors approve the final manuscript and the team agrees the journal.

We cover the publication pathway

For accepted cases, microscopIA provides scientific preparation, English-language writing and editorial coordination, and covers publication charges at the agreed journal. The approved funding route and two payment milestones are documented before work begins. We verify journal PubMed coverage before submission.

Editorial acceptance, peer-review timing and indexing of the individual article remain independent outcomes, not guarantees.

Up to four treating clinicians + three contributors

The planned team has up to seven authors: up to four clinicians who treated the patient, alongside the two assigned participants and the microscopIA supervisor. Everyone must qualify through substantive work, manuscript review, final approval and accountability.

Order is agreed prospectively and checked against journal rules. No honorary authorship or removal of earned credit. The call fee is separate from the applicant’s Network membership and from membership conditions for assigned Join a Project participants.

FIRST PUBLICATION? START HERE

What happens between an approved project and a published article?

  1. Scientific acceptance by microscopIA

We assess the question, organized inputs, permissions, included allowance and feasible scope. This is not journal acceptance.

  2. Analysis and manuscript

The accepted team completes the agreed work. Authors review the interpretation, disclosures and final manuscript before approving submission.

  3. Journal submission and peer review

Editors may reject without peer review, request changes or invite external reviewers. Revisions, additional analyses or a new journal may be needed; changes of scope or budget require agreement.

  4. Acceptance, then publication

Acceptance is an editorial decision. Proof correction, production and online publication follow, often on a separate timetable. A preprint is not a journal publication; indexing is not automatic.

Membership, fees, data contribution or clinical seniority do not guarantee acceptance, authorship, author position, impact factor or publication date.

Authorship requires substantive contributions, drafting or critical review, final approval and accountability. Anonymization does not automatically remove consent or ethics obligations. Journal charges are covered only at the agreed journal within the approved scope and budget; no undisclosed extras. Negative or inconclusive results must not be hidden.

For new paid call projects, the first installment follows written approval and agreement; the second follows journal publication of the article, not acceptance or preprint posting. Existing accepted benefits and signed agreements are preserved without retrospective charges.

Up to 8 weeks to prepare the manuscript

Preparation follows scientific approval and activation with complete authorized inputs. The written scope records the start date, materials, milestones and any agreed changes. Journal review, acceptance and publication take additional independent time.

Explore accelerated preparation →

The simulator offers accelerated and preferential preparation targets, subject to feasibility and a separate written agreement. Its commercial estimate is not automatically a supplement for an included benefit: coordination must reconcile the included work first. No duplicate charge; no accelerated journal decision is promised.

A clear agreement before any payment.

New cases use the published member or nonmember project rates. Existing accepted benefits and signed agreements are preserved. The Americas rate applies to other eligible countries in the Americas, except the USA and Canada; the global route includes the USA, Canada and the rest of the world. The lead must be a qualified professional; only member pricing requires verified professional membership.

No application fee or patient charge. The first installment is due only after written approval and the signed scope. The second installment is due only upon journal publication of the article, not acceptance or a preprint, and never for rejection. The agreement identifies the paying representative, route, applicable taxes, deliverables and refund rules. No automatic extra charge or acceptance guarantee.

This special call is separate from any case-report entitlement included in a membership plan. The team confirms the applicable pathway in writing; this call does not silently replace an existing approved benefit or signed agreement.

CLEAR EXPECTATIONS

Before you commit.

Do I need a microscopIA membership?

No. Qualified clinicians and investigators may apply as nonmembers at the standard rate, or activate professional membership for member project rates. Existing professional members do not buy another subscription. Students & Young Professionals cannot lead. Membership and scientific selection are separate; verify eligibility, recurring costs and written project terms before committing.

Does acceptance guarantee publication or authorship?

No. Scientific selection is independent of payment. The journal decides acceptance. Every author must meet all applicable contribution, drafting or critical review, approval and accountability criteria. Up to four treating clinicians plus two participants and a supervisor is the planned team, not purchased author positions. Resolve journal limits and contribution disputes before submission; never omit a qualifying author just to fit a quota.

Is patient consent enough to start?

No. Obtain institutional authorization and the applicable ethics determination, as well as written publication consent. A case report is not automatically exempt from review everywhere. Treatment consent is not publication consent. For minors or people requiring representation, verify lawful authority, appropriate assent and local safeguards. Refusal must never affect care.

When can I share records or images?

Only after acceptance, signed agreements, permissions and a secure transfer channel are confirmed. Remove unnecessary identifiers from text, images and metadata; coded data may still be personal data. Agree recipients, access, storage country and retention before transfer. Do not upload records to public forms, chat, personal clouds or public AI tools. The original clinical record and signed consent remain under institutional custody.

Can a patient withdraw? What if a project stops?

Patients may refuse or withdraw permission before disclosure without affecting care. Explain that removal of every copy cannot be guaranteed after publication or an authorized preprint. Stop and review if permission is missing or withdrawn. For paid projects, cancellation and any refund depend on authorized work actually delivered and mandatory law; the advance is not automatically forfeited. Earned scientific credit is preserved.

How long does review take?

Send early: the case must be submitted by 15 November 2026, Colombia time. Submitting an application is not acceptance or a reservation. The team confirms feasibility, responsibilities and a proposed timetable in writing; there is no guaranteed editorial decision date. Use the professional proposal form below; contact coordination if you need accessibility assistance.

START WITH THE CLINICAL LESSON

What could other clinicians learn from your case?

Send a short, non-identifiable proposal: specialty; nationality and country of practice; institution and treating role; society membership where applicable; requested funding route; the clinical learning point; and consent/authorization status. Describe the learning point without exact dates, rare identifying combinations or attachments.

Applications close on 15 November 2026. Review and onboarding dates are confirmed individually after approval. Submitting a declaration or application alone does not reserve a place.
