Eligibility follows the external team’s primary institutional affiliations: more than half must be in eligible economies. Includes microscopIA delivery and coordination fees; taxes and third-party charges are excluded. Custom projects are confirmed in the proposal. A quote or application alone does not secure the discount.

ACCOUNTABLE COLLABORATION

Contribution creates authorship. Payment never does.

External investigators contribute the question, domain and clinical context, research-ready materials, ethical and institutional authorization, scientific interpretation, review and accountability. microscopIA contributes the technical-scientific capabilities the project requires.

What is included

  • A submission-ready scientific package within the accepted scope
  • Standard, accelerated or preferential microscopIA delivery target: up to 8, 4 or 2 weeks after complete activation
  • Up to 14 calendar days for collaborative author review
  • Explicit approval from every qualifying author

What is not included or guaranteed

  • Purchased or automatic authorship, affiliation or corresponding-author status
  • Journal acceptance, publication, indexing, citation impact or a fixed editorial timeline
  • Simultaneous submissions or submission to a scientifically unsuitable journal
  • Unapproved scope expansion, data rescue, regulatory authorization or policy adoption
  • Any APC that is not confirmed eligible before submission

PUBLICATION PATHWAY

Choose the access route before submission.

The Planner records your preference; scientific suitability, legitimate authorship and the current publisher agreement control the final route.

Open access where eligible

microscopIA-funded open access applies only when a qualifying microscopIA author legitimately serves as corresponding author. Funding does not purchase authorship.

Subscription acceptable

When another legitimate corresponding-author arrangement applies, microscopIA ordinarily uses a subscription route where the selected journal offers one.

Fully open-access journal

If a journal is fully open access and the project does not meet the open-access eligibility rule, the team must choose another eligible journal or legitimate arrangement before submission.

Publisher confirmation

Publisher arrangements are separate, dated, governed and agreement-specific. Portfolio naming never guarantees that every journal or article is eligible. When an eligible article-processing charge is funded, direct payment to the publisher is preferred. The public planner never adds an imaginary APC.

Preferential access for Colombia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

A permanent regional baseline now applies across Latin America and the Caribbean, with an even lower COP baseline for Colombia. It is built into the Planner automatically—there is no coupon, deadline or separate application.

Clear and independent

The primary institutional affiliations of the proposed external authors—not nationality, citizenship, residence, ethnicity or personal identity. Regional pricing does not change scientific evaluation, authorship criteria, peer-review independence, journal selection, publication standards or editorial outcomes.

How it is assigned: The Colombia baseline applies when strictly more than 50% of the external team has a primary institutional affiliation in Colombia. Otherwise, the Latin America & Caribbean baseline applies when strictly more than 50% of the external team has a primary institutional affiliation in the region. Exactly 50% or no majority requires individual evaluation.

Add the country of each external author’s primary institutional affiliation and the number of authors in that country. Eligibility never uses nationality, citizenship, residence, ethnicity or personal identity. Do not include microscopIA authors or use secondary affiliations to seek a lower tier.

How regional access and the majority rule work

Colombia has the lowest, COP-denominated baseline. The wider Latin America & Caribbean baseline applies across the region, including economies that the World Bank classifies as high income. Outside the region, microscopIA uses the World Bank FY2027 snapshot, effective 1 July 2026–30 June 2027.

A pathway applies only when it accounts for strictly more than 50% of the external team. Colombia is tested first, then the complete Latin America & Caribbean region, followed by the non-regional income groups. Exactly 50% is mixed. If no pathway exceeds 50%, individual evaluation is required.

This is an administrative access method—not an assessment of scientific quality, institutional merit or research value. It never changes authorship, peer review or editorial standards.

Targets begin after Project Activation and apply to preparation of the submission-ready manuscript—not journal review or publication. Priority timing remains subject to capacity confirmation.

Open access is an included benefit only where policy-eligible. It requires a qualifying microscopIA author legitimately serving as corresponding author; funding does not purchase authorship. Another legitimate corresponding-author arrangement normally uses a subscription route where available.

READINESS

The microscopIA production clock starts only after activation.

Every applicable acceptance, agreement, governance, authorship, ethics, material-readiness and Activation Payment requirement must be complete. Journal screening, peer review, revision, acceptance, production and indexing are separate processes controlled by the journal and have no promised duration.

Requires an organized, analysis-ready, appropriately de-identified database with clear coding, a data dictionary, defined missing values, variable definitions, reasonable consistency and no uncontrolled duplication.

Ethics and authority

Applicable Ethics Committee or IRB approval, exemption or waiver, consent status, registry and data-use authority must be verifiable through the project workflow.

Case report or series

Signed publication consent remains under institutional custody. Stage 1 asks only whether it is obtained; restricted verification and authorized material transfer occur after qualification.

WHAT HAPPENS IF?

Real answers before activation.

01What if microscopIA rejects my project?

Nothing becomes payable.

02What if I do not sign the agreement or complete activation?

The project does not activate and the production clock does not start.

03What if my database is not ready?

The project may be declined, paused or re-scoped. Raw unstructured exports are not publication-ready databases.

04What if I add authors later?

Authorship eligibility, contribution documentation, coordination and pricing may require revalidation. Payment never confers authorship.

05What if author review is delayed?

The microscopIA timeline pauses. Silence is never treated as approval; every author must explicitly approve the final manuscript.

06What if the first journal rejects?

microscopIA reassesses the work and makes appropriate substantive improvements before the next suitable sequential submission.

07What if the selected journal is fully open access but the project is not eligible?

The team must choose another scientifically appropriate eligible journal or legitimate arrangement before submission. An ineligible APC is not silently passed to the applicant.

08Does a publisher name guarantee coverage?

No. Publisher agreements are separate, dated and agreement-specific; microscopIA confirms journal and article eligibility before submission.
