A sustained scientific agenda, expert supervision and shared execution capacity.

Membership permits an application; it does not reserve a place, staff or authorship. The lead agrees supervision, roles and resources before work starts.
FIND THE RIGHT SCOPE
A group sustains an agenda and brings expertise together. A project has a question, defined tasks and outputs. An institutional agreement sets resources and responsibilities between organisations.

Review groups and requirements →Check project tasks, language and dates. An external route exists only where the call explicitly permits it.
Explore projects →Propose a question or complementary capability. Methods, contributions, data, budget, intellectual property and output review are agreed.
Discuss a collaboration →An affiliated researcher does not automatically represent their institution. Membership does not grant authorship or automatic access to restricted data.
Jorge Racedo is a biomedical engineer, microscopIA founder and Chief Executive Officer. Based in Bogotá, Colombia, he develops research and technical-scientific infrastructure that connects clinical questions with geospatial analysis, health economics, epidemiology, data science and engineering. His work focuses on turning evidence about access, capacity and outcomes into practical options for service planning and health-system decisions.
Map services, travel times and areas for expansion.
Evaluate resource use, outcomes and decision uncertainty.
Turn population needs into service-planning evidence.
Develop and evaluate models, prototypes and devices with documented validation and a defined intended use.

Verify operational intensive-care facilities and relevant ICU subtypes, then evaluate population access through documented geographic and travel-time analysis. Regional teams use a harmonized protocol and country-specific sources.

Develop and evaluate an artificial-intelligence workflow for fetal ultrasound image segmentation and biometric measurements, using a clinically curated dataset and a prespecified reference standard. The project will prioritize clinically meaningful validation rather than model accuracy alone: internal holdout testing, class-wise performance, calibration where applicable, subgroup performance, error analysis and transparent reporting will be incorporated into the final study design.
Reproduce, critically evaluate and extend country-specific health economic decision thresholds and monetary net-benefit methods for global health-system decision making. The project will test sensitivity to alternative health-expenditure definitions, life-expectancy modelling choices, temporal updating, macroeconomic assumptions and uncertainty; outputs will emphasize transparent limitations and appropriate use in resource-allocation decisions.
Map active specialists and service sites that provide ROP screening, treatment or both. A five-person country team will verify service capacity and geographic coverage, adapting the Colombian study to the local health system.

Active microscopIA members may apply. Students, early-career professionals, clinicians, engineers and experienced investigators contribute in roles matched to their preparation. Admission depends on scientific fit, supervision and available capacity.
Applicants of all nationalities are welcome. Working languages: English and Spanish.
The group leader reviews complete applications and normally responds by email within 10 calendar days.
Submit your CV, interests, membership email and weekly availability.
The scientific lead reviews your application and proposed role.
Confirm supervision, training, milestones and applicable permissions before research starts.
ACADEMIC PATHWAYS
Credits, undergraduate/master’s thesis, doctoral research, research within clinical training and special projects with microscopIA experts. Institutional approval and a written supervision plan apply.
HOW AN AGENDA BECOMES WORK
A group brings people together around related questions. An observatory organizes a thematic programme and its projects; an individual proposal needs its own evaluation.
The lead reviews fit, preparation, languages and supervision capacity. Roles, time commitment, deliverables and follow-up are agreed before execution.
Activity is evidenced through documented projects, contributions and outputs. Membership, group admission and authorship are assessed separately.
Bring scientific leadership and a sustained research program. We review the proposal, required resources and recruitment plan before agreeing the group’s scope.
Proposed group name, purpose and scientific priorities.
Proposed leader’s CV, relevant expertise and supervision capacity.
At least three distinct projects: question, design, data sources, permissions, timeline and expected outputs.
Member recruitment: roles, places, qualifications, languages, weekly commitment and selection criteria.
Resources requested, existing support, conflicts of interest and proposed data and intellectual-property arrangements.
Applications to join established groups are open throughout the year to active members, subject to fit and capacity. Group approval does not automatically approve its projects.
