01
The project offer you accept
These terms cover participation as a research-team member, not enrollment as a patient in a clinical study. They apply to the projects listed at global.microscopiatech.com/projects, including clinical research, artificial intelligence, geospatial public-health research and health economics.
You may apply simultaneously to up to three projects. Application is not acceptance or a guarantee of three placements.
Before accepting a place, receive a dated project brief identifying the project title and record, investigators and supervisor, eligibility, working language, capacity, expected weekly workload, tasks, training, deliverables, deadlines with timezone, expected participation period, membership eligibility and included costs.
Retain that brief with this version of the terms. A live catalogue update does not silently replace an accepted agreement.
If a project title, link, specialty, supervisor or date conflicts with another field, ask Jorge Racedo at jorge.racedo@microscopiatech.com for a corrected written brief before committing or paying specifically to join it. Do not infer a deadline timezone from your browser.
Mandatory law prevails, then the expressly accepted project-specific conditions and these service terms. Material changes require notice, a clear explanation and agreement where required, with withdrawal and appropriate remedies available.
02
Project tasks, funding and recognition
For approved Join a Project work, microscopIA covers all execution and publication costs, including engineering, epidemiology and data-science staff costs. Participants do not finance these project costs. Applicable membership fees are separate.
Professional calls for proposing case reports or original research have their own input requirements, rates and accepted agreements; these are distinct pathways.
The usual participant contribution is data extraction and verification with training and supervision, unless the brief specifies another role. Mapping includes source searches, provider database construction and service-site geolocation; AI projects may assign image annotation.
No task authorizes access to confidential data without permission.
Members and external participants receive project certificates for verified work and completed milestones. These are distinct from membership certificates, references and academic credit. Substantial contributors must have an opportunity to draft or critically review, approve the final manuscript and accept accountability.
Everyone meeting all applicable authorship criteria should be credited; data extraction or good attendance alone does not guarantee authorship.
Where appropriate and permitted, author-approved preprints may be shared before or during journal peer review and must be identified as not peer reviewed. The team plans for one contributor to present suitable work as a poster or oral contribution at a national or international congress.
Selection considers contribution, preparation and availability; congress acceptance is independent. Registration and travel funding require separate written confirmation. No publication date, editorial decision or congress acceptance is guaranteed.
03
An active supervised assignment each membership month
microscopIA undertakes to provide at least one active, supervised research assignment during each active membership month. A project that continues across months satisfies this commitment while meaningful supervised work remains available; it is not a promise of a new manuscript each month.
If you are not selected for a preferred project, microscopIA must offer an appropriate alternative, including a review paper, with an identified supervisor, tasks and onboarding. Approved publication fees for that review manuscript are covered by microscopIA.
The team must monitor unassigned members and offer an enrollment opportunity no later than the last week of the applicable membership month. A prior accepted calendar-month or earlier plan deadline remains protected.
Members complete reasonable eligibility and onboarding requirements; a nominal project name without a workable assignment is insufficient. If an offered project is unsuitable, agree an appropriate alternative and a dated resolution. Failure to supply an included benefit requires a documented remedy such as replacement, extension, credit or an appropriate refund, without waiving mandatory rights.
Contact contact@microscopiatech.com promptly; payment is not a guarantee of journal acceptance or authorship.
04
Simultaneous projects and workload
The accepted project agreement confirms the permitted workload and simultaneous projects. Its specific limit must be disclosed before enrollment and governs scheduling; there is no universal one-project restriction across all plans. The catalogue describes approximately 3–7 hours of flexible remote work per week, but the project brief must confirm the actual expectation.
Agree changes before adding work. Training, contributions, review and accountability remain essential; no plan purchases authorship.
05
Admission and the project agreement
Application and payment do not guarantee selection. The team reviews eligibility, capacity, conflicts and project needs. Before activation, the project agreement identifies the principal investigator, supervisor, research question, role, tasks, expected duration, access, milestones, training, ethics approvals, data permissions, costs and completion criteria.
Do not begin work or collect data before authorization.
A project is research, with uncertain findings and publication timelines. No employment, guaranteed authorship, journal acceptance, grade, license or financial return is sold. Any institution-specific academic credit requires that institution’s approval.
06
Requirements by research track
Geospatial and public-health projects involve documented source searches, facility verification, coordinates, structured databases, quality control, maps and interpretation. Regional intensive-care teams may appoint a team leader and coordinate country assignments. Colombia-specific calls may require Colombian nationality and residence and Spanish, while international calls have their own language and country requirements.
Workload is commonly 3–7 hours weekly, subject to the individual brief.
Artificial-intelligence projects include clinical-image annotation, data curation, labeling quality checks and scientific writing. Current calls generally provide seven places and approximately 3–5 hours of weekly work. Prior AI experience is not generally required, but training and demonstrated labeling competency are required before independent annotation.
A qualified specialist adjudicates uncertain clinical labels. Data must be authorized, de-identified where appropriate and handled only within approved systems. Research models must not be used for patient diagnosis or treatment without separate validation and lawful authorization.
Health-economics projects require careful source provenance, country-level data curation, defined monetary units and price years, reproducible calculations and uncertainty reporting. Results are research outputs, not individualized reimbursement, investment or treatment advice. Across all tracks, remote work without a fixed schedule does not waive agreed milestones, training or necessary supervised activities.
07
Clinical studies: preparation is not permission to enroll
The catalogue includes proposed feeding studies in premature infants, investigational filtered-sunlight studies concerning retinopathy of prematurity and a pilot phototherapy study in adult critical care. These listings recruit research collaborators. They do not establish that a study is approved, registered, recruiting patients or a proven treatment.
Current clinical calls specify four research-team places, Spanish fluency, documented biostatistics training and approximately 3–5 hours weekly, subject to the accepted project brief.
Before any patient contact, screening, consent, recruitment or intervention, the responsible institution and investigators must document the approved protocol, ethics and institutional permissions, any required regulatory authorization, trial registration where applicable, trained and delegated staff, secure records, an approved consent process and a safety-response plan.
Prospective clinical-trial registration is required before the first enrollment under the applicable journal and regulatory requirements. Announced start dates may relate only to protocol preparation.
Clinical decisions remain with appropriately licensed and institutionally authorized professionals. Students and non-clinical researchers may perform only delegated tasks within verified competence and supervision. Research follow-up calls are not emergency care or an independent telemedicine consultation.
Do not instruct families to change feeding, use sunlight or administer phototherapy outside an approved clinical protocol. In an urgent situation, follow the study escalation plan and connect the person with local clinical or emergency services.
Report harms, protocol deviations and suspected breaches promptly, and stop unsafe or unauthorized activity.
The study documents must separately address patient rights, consent or lawful representation, assent where appropriate, withdrawal, safety monitoring, research-related injury and any required insurance or compensation arrangements. A researcher’s membership agreement cannot replace patient consent or waive patient protections.
If approvals are refused or delayed, no recruitment proceeds, and participation scope, timing and membership implications must be reviewed with affected collaborators.
08
Active membership during projects
The Clinical images & AI call requires active Clinicians & Investigators microscopIA Network membership, verified before acceptance. Students & Young Professionals cannot lead the AI, case-report or original-research calls. Qualified professionals may apply to the clinical case-report and original-research calls as members or nonmembers under their published conditions.
Membership and project approval are separate decisions. Participants using member-exclusive benefits must maintain active membership for those benefits; cancellation triggers individual review of remaining responsibilities. Membership receipts support staff salaries, scientific coordination and publication fees; they do not purchase authorship or guarantee that every external publication cost is included.
The project agreement must define the participation period and expected duration, completion or withdrawal process, included costs and any separately approved fees. Research timelines may change. Continued membership is not an undisclosed unlimited financial commitment: participants may withdraw and cancel future renewal, subject to safe handover and preservation of earned scientific credit.
09
Non-payment, suspension and reinstatement
If membership expires, is cancelled with immediate effect or payment remains unpaid when due, participation and member-only access are suspended. Turning off renewal does not remove access already paid for before the paid period ends.
We notify the participant of the reason, effective date, balance if any, correction route and project implications; an offer-specific grace period applies only if expressly provided.
During suspension, do not access restricted data, label new cases or represent yourself as an active project participant. Notify the supervisor and securely hand over pending work. Reinstatement requires resolving the payment or eligibility issue and confirmation by the team; the original task or slot may no longer be available.
Report payment errors promptly for review. Suspension cannot erase qualifying contributions or prevent legally required access to personal records.
10
Supervised work and confidentiality
Follow approved protocols, deadlines, version control and supervision. Keep accurate records; flag errors, adverse events, conflicts or feasibility problems promptly. Students must not independently diagnose, provide care or make clinical decisions under a research assignment.
Work involving people requires the applicable institutional, ethical and regulatory permissions.
Use only approved secure repositories. Do not put patient data into personal cloud accounts, public AI systems or ordinary email. No re-identification, unauthorized copying, onward sharing or secondary commercial use. Report a suspected breach immediately to the supervisor using an appropriate secure route.
Data ownership, permitted use, retention and deletion follow the signed data-sharing agreement.
12
Withdrawal, project changes and complaints
You may withdraw by notifying the supervisor and cancelling future membership renewals separately. Agree a safe handover, document completed contributions and return or delete copies as instructed, without destroying required research records.
Completion ends project-specific work but does not automatically cancel a separately authorized recurring plan; use its cancellation route.
If a project stops or materially changes, the team explains options, including a mutually agreed reassignment or an appropriate remedy for paid services not supplied. No indefinite membership extension or new fee is presumed accepted.
Contact contact@microscopiatech.com for participation issues and finance@microscopiatech.com for payments. Mandatory rights remain protected.
13
Publication costs, certificates and conference participation
For catalogue projects promising covered publication fees, microscopIA pays the approved article-processing charges for the agreed resulting manuscript. Participants are not required to personally pay those approved charges. Any different or additional expense must be disclosed and expressly accepted in advance, never imposed retrospectively.
Conference travel, registration, accommodation and visas are not presumed included unless confirmed in writing.
Certificates describe verified work, participation dates, training and contribution. Completion is stated only when its requirements are met, but issuance for documented participation is not conditional on journal acceptance or publication. A certificate is not a professional license, accredited degree or clinical privilege.
Authorship remains governed by the contribution requirements below.
Where a project offers a poster presenter position, selection is based on documented performance and relevant presentation readiness, with the criteria communicated to the team. Presentation also depends on abstract acceptance and feasible arrangements.
Team leadership or presenter selection does not determine author order. A preprint, submission-ready manuscript, journal acceptance and PubMed record are distinct milestones. None of the latter outcomes is guaranteed by payment.
Use no more than two genuine institutional affiliations where the project brief requires that limit, subject to journal rules. Association-researcher or fellowship recognition is separate and requires the applicable verified eligibility criteria, not merely joining this project.
Membership funding does not eliminate the duty to disclose relevant financial and non-financial interests.
14
Case-report assignments and clinician contributors
New case-report and original-research proposals use member project rates or standard nonmember rates (3×). Membership is a separate recurring subscription, not free project execution. No additional 30% discount stacks with these call rates.
Existing accepted benefits and signed agreements are preserved; no retrospective charges. Scientific approval, organized authorized inputs and written scope are required. Students & Young Professionals cannot lead these calls. The AI image collaboration retains its separate member-only eligibility and commercial terms.
Case collaboration also requires patient publication consent, institutional authorization, applicable ethics review, secure transfer and contribution-based authorship.
A proposed author arrangement is up to four treating clinicians plus two participants and the supervisor, subject to actual qualifying contributions and journal rules. Do not equate a research-team place with guaranteed authorship.
Likewise, the separate AI clinician data-contribution call and its negotiated commercial participation do not grant revenue rights automatically to student labelers or general project members.
15
Personal accounts, sharing and fraud prevention
Individual accounts, memberships, bookings and included benefits for services on microscopiatech.com and Global are personal and non-transferable unless an accepted written institutional or group agreement expressly permits named users. Do not share credentials, resell access, impersonate another person, let another person attend or complete an assessment in your name, or use another member’s allowances.
A third party may pay for the named beneficiary without becoming that beneficiary.
An authorized guardian, accessibility assistant or institutional administrator may help with permitted administration through an agreed arrangement. Assistance must not disguise who receives care, training or assessment. Using a shared household connection, travelling or using more than one personal device is not by itself proof of fraud.
Deliberate misrepresentation, credential misuse and unauthorized sharing may constitute a contractual breach and, where applicable law and evidence support it, fraud. microscopIA may restrict affected access while investigating a credible security concern.
Review is based on relevant evidence and proportionate verification under the Privacy Policy. Where safe and legally permitted, the person receives the reasons and an opportunity to explain or request review at contact@microscopiatech.com.
Report a compromised account promptly; a victim of account theft is not automatically treated as the offender.
Confirmed misuse may lead to correction, separate named accounts, suspension or termination of affected access under the accepted terms and applicable law. There is no automatic fine, blanket forfeiture of prepaid fees or cancellation of earned scientific credit.
Assess undelivered services, authorized work and statutory refund, cancellation and dispute rights individually; contact finance@microscopiatech.com for billing review. Material changes apply prospectively with required notice and acceptance; this clause does not retroactively amend an existing agreement.
